Hiking and Climbing in Liguria

In Liguria the mountains drop directly into the sea, attracting travellers wishing to discover lovely trails for hiking and mountain biking. The trails that flank the coast, such as the roads of Cinqueterre; offer unforgettable sensations. The trails in the hinterland allow the climb to the highest parts of the Ligurian Alps through olive groves and vineyards hemmed in by the dry stone walls. The environments vary greatly: it is not unusual for fields of Mediterranean wildflowers to give way to fir forests within just a few hundred metres difference in altitude. Liguria is the only region where alpine and Mediterranean flora and fauna meet each other.

The paths of the hinterland often run along the entire ridge of Ligurian mountain arc and offer breathtaking views. On the beautiful clear days that occur prevalently in autumn and winter, hikers will be rewarded with the thrilling spectacle of the sunrise, and the view of the Corsica Isle, the Monviso and the Monte Rosa massif at a glance.
Situated on the approach to the West are the numerous craggy cliffs of the area around Finale Ligure, one of the most important centres for free-climbing in Europe: over 3000 pathways across the solid rock, 200 pulls, formations suitable for beginners and aerial sections of overhanging rock for the most experienced climbers.
In the western Liguria rock-climbing is possible all year round, but the best seasons are spring, autumn and winter.

And of course, not to forget: the world famous CINQUE TERRE
Part of the UNESCO world heritge sites, attacts many visitors who visit the 5 villages, Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore normally by train.
